It all began in spring 1982. Driven by the urge to create something special and unique for their family, Mara and Doriano embarked on an ambitious venture: taking the helm of the Hotel Bauer, which stands among the peaceful greenery of the Jesolo pine woods, around 5 km from the night life in the town centre and the pubs, clubs and restaurants on the coast.
They were so different – almost opposites – but they came together as one to work on the new initiative and complemented each other flawlessly.
As the daughter of hoteliers, Mara had an innate understanding of how to make people feel truly welcome. The key lies in little things, quiet attentiveness and attention to detail, with no stone left unturned.
Doriano grew up in a world full of aromas and his subtle, almost instinctive sensibility meant he had the rare ability to know what guests wanted even before they asked. He made them feel pampered, cherished and really understood.
The road to becoming a Four-Star Superior Hotel
The hotel grew along with Mara and Doriano over the years, to the extent that they almost became one and the same thing. More than just a new chapter, each season was a chance to evolve, improve and take things to the next level.
Step by step, two little, long-established hotels merged and embraced the same vision. The Bauer & Sporting is a heavenly seafront spot run by a family who blend the past with the present and continue to look to the future. This is thanks in part to Mara and Doriano’s children, who began to help their parents to run the hotel and look after guests when they were very young.
Major milestones in the Berton family’s story
- 1992: The hotel earned its fourth star.
- 1994 - 2001: The Sporting was bought and renovated. There was more than just construction work to the process, which brought a vision to fruition. Two establishments with two different identities were carefully fused, becoming a single entity united by the same profound take on hospitality.
- 2015: The hotel was awarded Four-star Superior status and investments were made in facilities such as open-air dining, heated pools and well-being areas where guests can really unwind.
Constantly striving to strike a vibrant balance between innovation and tradition on the seafront
The biggest and boldest change came in 2022, with the introduction of a brand-new image and facilities at the Bauer & Sporting. There are sweeping views stretching as far as the horizon from the new floor of Junior Suites, while the restaurant combines a sophisticated design with exceptional ingredients and the peaceful beauty of the pine woods, for unforgettable holiday experiences.
The Bauer & Sporting is now a consolidated, first-rate establishment providing unbeatable services and hospitality.
Part of the secret to its success lies in everything the family has passed down to the next generation. They will write the next chapter in a story that has seen the growth and development of two buildings, with two different identities whose memories live on here and make our lives so meaningful today.
“For our family, providing hospitality isn’t about following a procedure: it’s something that comes to us naturally. While a Four-star Superior Hotel must have outstanding services and amenities, we believe that people are needed to breathe life into it. Every one of our guests takes centre stage here, alongside us. The greatest gift of all for us is a loyal guest. We’ve seen children run along the corridors, grow up and come back with their own children. We’ve had the honour of hosting four generations of the same family at the same time. Nothing makes us happier than knowing that the Bauer & Sporting is a place where families make memories that last a lifetime.”
Mara’s sensitive touch and legacy live on thanks to us, we are just as dedicated as ever.
